celebrating The Centenary of Rotary International

and in support of Canal Boats for Disabled People

Millie the Narrowboat

Llangollen to London on a Narrowboat

To promote Rotary International in its centenary year, and to raise awareness of Canal Boats for Disabled People, The Rotary Club of Wrexham took a narrowboat from Llangollen to London and back. The journey of approximately 585 miles commenced at just after 8.16 am on Friday, 8th April. Millie and crew returned safely to Llangollen at 18:59 hrs on Thursday, 19th May.

SWEEPSTAKE
The winning entry for the sweepstake, to guess the duration of our journey, was sold by our grand-daughter club: The Rotary Club of Wrexham Yale. We would like to thank those clubs who submitted entries.

Some photographs, taken during the journey, have been incorporated into our log, with plenty of others in our Photo Diary.

The narrowboat, Millie, is fully fitted for people with disabilities to enjoy a canal holiday
and owned and operated by The Vale of Llangollen Canal Boat Trust. More than 40 disabled persons, each accompanied by their carer have enjoyed a day trip during the course of this project. Seeing the way that they have enjoyed themselves, has brought home the fact that this is an excellent way for them to relax.
